Ishzal

Sith Apprentice

Member of the month for August is the Sith Apprentice Ishzal!

Ishzal is a rather recent addition to the Hands of Darkness having yet to progress up the ranks to far, but don't let this decieve you!  Ishzal is a great RPer and has a huge passion for getting involved where ever he can!  He has been running the Arena of Geonosis event which saw him organise a series of fights RPed out by the members!

Who are you?

I'm John, one of the few Scandinavians in guild not from Sweden ;)
Currently doing my Master's degree in Linguistics at the University of Aarhus in Denmark, where I also live.
There is really not much to know about me. In my spare time, when I'm not RPing, I listen to music (preferably Progressive Metal, Jazz Fusion or Arabic Folk), or read about ancient languages (especially writing systems), which maybe could be considered a hobby of mine.

Who is your character?

The eccentric and deranged, yet intelligent and captivating female Togruta, Ishzal.

She is a young Togruta Sith agent with unknown origin from beyond the outer rim, raised partly on Csilla by the Chiss, and on Axxila by a bounty hunter Named Ohran Zul. Later on she was bought by the Sith Darth Aonarous and became his apprentice. Ishzal graduated with high marks from the Sith Academy of Korriban with a specialization in intelligence. Darth Aonarous used her as an instrument in his own vendetta against former Jedi colleagues on Caamas and Coruscant, but upon his death Ishzal was left without a Master and began to roam the galaxy working as a freelance hacker.

ATC: Employed by Darth Fectious at the request of Darth Viscus as an undercover hacker; unofficially as an operator of internal affairs within the Hands of Darkness reporting about Darth Viscus' fellow council members activities. On a mission to obtain intelligence from a flagship owned by Darth Derriphan, Ishzal encountered the Sith Darth Inanivis, who subdued her to torture, executed her and revived her, only to turn her into a double agent. As a double agent, and with sworn allegiance to her Demiurge, Darth Inanivis, Ishzal's primary target then became to investigate the identity of the Sith Lord, who employed her in the first place; Darth Viscus. This change of event only led her further down the path of Darkness.

Ishzal, with her primary skills in hacking, espionage and assassination is the perfect tool to secretly obtain intelligence from the various data systems of the Galaxy. Although she has extensive knowledge of Force forms and unarmed combat, she is however not a skilled technical fighter and prefers her missions to be as silent and shadowy as possible. To Ishzal it makes no difference, whether it is a data system of the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire that she is required to hack, nor is she interested in the nature of the obtained data.

What compels you to RP your character?

She is in many ways the exact opposite of me: female, gay, insane, Togruta, cool etc. Especially her eccentric and deranged nature absorbs me. I have always been intrigued by the darkness and insanity that dwells in the subconscious mind, and I believe that extreme circumstances create extreme people. Ishzal is not evil, but merely a product of the events of her life. Molested as a child, mistreated and tortured, Ishzal is just a normal (Togruta) girl, who acts according to what she has been taught through years of abuse.

When did you first start RP and why?

Hmm, I don't remember. It was really a quite natural progression from reading loads of fantasy books as a child. Geek meets geek: Pen & Paper ftw.

What about SWTOR are you most excited about?

Many things. But if I have to pick only one thing that have exited me the most recently, that would be personal spaceships. Not because of space combat, but because it seems like a really nice place for RP, if the devs don't fuck it up too much.

Favorite Star Wars Movie?

Big surprise: The Empire Strikes Back.

Time line update: The Mandalorian Wars PDF Print E-mail
Written by Darth Derriphan
Friday, 06 August 2010 17:57

This weeks Friday Update is here and it's a Timeline video featuring everyone's favourite T-Visored War mongers.  The Mandalorians!   Once more Jedi Historian Master Gnost-Dural gives us his take on the past events of the Star Wars Universe, this time telling us all about the Mandalorian Wars.

Those who have played Knights of the old Republic and read the Knights of the old Republic Comics will already be aware of the events that occurred during the Mandalorian Wars that would see a group of Jedi lead by the Revanchist go against the wishes of the Jedi council on Coruscant to fight the growing Mandalorian threat plaguing the far corners of the galaxy.

Led by the Taung known as Mandalore the Ultimate the Mandalorians waged a vicious campaign that would truly devastate the Out Rim worlds, and nearly bring such races as the Cathar to the edge of extinction.  Still recovering from the war with the Sith the Jedi council deemed it wise to stay out of the conflict and wait until they could fully understand the situation, but there were those who would not stand by and watch millions be slaughtered.

Two Jedi known as Revan and Malak gathered what troops they could and set off to combat the Mandalorian menace, not realising that it would in the end take them down a very dark path.

Nar Shaddaa

"Never have I been to a place so alive with the Force, yet so dead to it. The contrast is like a blade." - Visas Marr

This Friday saw the release of information regarding the new planet, Nar Shadaa!  Long time EU fans and those who have played Knights of the Old Republic 2 will instantly know the ins and outs of this crime filled ecumenoplis.  A vast cityscape that orbits the world of Nal Hutta.  Controlled by the Hutts it is a place of greed and corruption free from Imperial Law.  Something we at the hands wish to change...

Holonet overview

One of the most vibrant and dangerous places in the galaxy, Nar Shaddaa is a sprawling cityscape where nothing comes without a price. Dominated by a black market that caters to every indulgence, the moon has become the ultimate symbol of corruption. The upper levels present an endless parade of glittering neon towers and floating pleasure palaces; no greater concentration of wealth exists across the galaxy. Behind these flashy facades, crime bosses and secret political emissaries make backroom deals that decide the fates of worlds, and as much as both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire might like to change it, the Hutt Cartel calls the shot.

For all the opulence above, however, an equal level of brutality lies below. The bowels of Nar Shaddaa hide some of the galaxy’s darkest secrets. In the pursuit of advanced technologies, unscrupulous enterprises conduct hazardous experiments on unwilling test subjects and crime lords employ slaves as fodder on industrial assembly lines. Fugitives hide from the law after committing heinous crimes, and prisoners who’ve vanished from all over the galaxy are held in anonymous and inescapable private prisons. Criminal enterprises beyond Hutt control compete for power, as well – foremost among them the Exchange syndicate, the Hutt Cartel's only genuine rival. While the upper levels of Nar Shaddaa may be one of the most desirable places to visit in the galaxy, the moon’s lower levels are a place which anyone in their right mind would avoid at all costs.

In the distant past, before becoming the Hutts’ showcase, Nar Shaddaa was used as a refugee camp for Evocii driven from Hutta itself. Then again, after the Jedi Civil War 300 years ago, Nar Shaddaa was swarmed with refugees who were used by the criminal Exchange to lure and capture any remaining Jedi. More recently, when the Great War began, it brought ruin to many star systems, but to Nar Shaddaa, it brought only more profit. While other systems were offering allegiance to the Empire or to the Republic, the Hutts controlling Nar Shaddaa realized they could keep their autonomy – and their increased profits – by dealing with both sides. This delicate balancing act has increased the risk of doing business, but it hasn’t deterred competition. The Exchange and the Hutt Cartel have engaged in a winner-takes-all crime war that spans the galaxy but centers on the tiny moon of Nar Shaddaa.

Member of the Month - July

Korensa K'Baul

Sith Warrior

This month we would like to introduce you to Koren, one of our longest standing members.   Koren has always been a constant inspiration and is always willing to help out new members the best she can, going so far as to volunteer to help moderate an X-fire chat room purely for this purpose.

One thing that must also be said is, if was not for Koren we would not have the guild dance.  The Charleston.  She was also the winner of a recent Bakers of Darkness competition we held!

Who are you?

I'm Tami. I reside somewhere in the northeastern portion of the United States. I won't tell you where exactly, but I will say that I live nearby to a city that is famous for beans, baseball, and sentences comprising almost completely of the word "F**k" and variations thereof.

For a living I fix computers, and for fun I enjoy brutal bouts with nature, baked goods, and metal.

I love metal.I am a DJ on radio show with my friends, and frequently go to shows.I like other music too. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0Ftc80obYM -Nifty, huh?

I also like cats.

Who is your character?

My character is the Laconic and sardonic Korensa K'baul, younger sister of Fectious. She's a teen-aged Sith Warrior. Who likes cookies.

What compels you to RP your character?

I have to be really nice to people all day. Koren doesn't have to be nice to people, so it's a decent change of pace. She's not very far along in her Sith career, though, so I try to explore how her humanity is often at odds with her teachings. Koren is an ex-Padawan, and didn't wake up one morning and decide that killing her master would be a neat thing to do that day. Her character is shaped around a life-changing event, and from there I am aiming to describe her subsequent descent into darkness in the following years, prior to the game's release. There's also that typical teenager-finding-herself jazz that younger characters are often fraught with. Koren grew up without a strong sense of self, basically being told who she is by everyone around her, so that bit of self-discovery is also interesting to me.

When did you first start RP and why?

Jeez, that's going pretty far back, but here goes:It was the late 90s and much like the Spice Girls, AOL was in its heyday; The streets were practically paved with their installation CDs...  AOL was a veritable utopia of RP. Chatrooms by the dozen, prettymuch anything you wanted to immerse yourself in. This was years before the sexual deviants took over. Sometimes I fire up the ol' Ay-Oh-HEll out of nostalgia, and it's all X-rated RP chats now. Vore. Lots and lots of Vore *shudder*

Anyway. The first things I RP'd were Gundam Wing and Legend of Zelda. And I was Terrible. Horrible. My Highschool English teacher would weep...I feel I am considerably less terrible now, after some practice.

What about SWTOR are you most excited about?

As long as I'm able to slice people up with a lightsaber I'll be all set.

Favorite Star Wars Movie?

Empire, natch.
